DECAFF in Differdange: the solution
The municipality of Differdange is committed to producing 100% of its electricity locally and sustainably by 2030, with active support from its diverse population. To achieve this, they plan to launch DECAFF (DECArbonising diFFerdange)—a multilingual IT platform designed to manage socio-economic data and engage the city’s multilingual, multicultural community in its decarbonization plan.
DECAFF Experimentation Plan to support Differdange to achieve its challenge is divided in the following 3 strands, supported by an engagement strategy.
Planning Sustainable Infrastructure (Designer Block)
Tailored to Differdange’s climate and residential characteristics, this block evaluates sustainable energy solutions, such as solar power systems and storage, for powering homes, industries, and offices.
Energy Monitoring & Forecasting (Data Block)
Collects and visualizes energy data, offering insights into energy production, consumption trends, and future capabilities.
Community Engagement (Cluster Block)
- Groups residents, industries, and organizations into clusters of energy consumers, producers, and prosumers.
- Encourages sustainable practices and renewable energy investments by fostering collaboration within the community.
To inspire participation, DECAFF will use gamification and interactive tools for industries, banks, and citizens, including:
- Personalized missions and challenges.
- Leaderboards, rewards, badges, and awards.
- Educational games and community events to raise awareness and promote eco-friendly behaviors.
By combining technology, data insights, and community engagement, DECAFF aims to empower Differdange to achieve its ambitious sustainability goals while uniting the population in its journey toward a greener future.
