Aalborg University

The Service Design Lab is an active research lab based in Aalborg University in Copenhagen dedicated to studying and applying service design. The Service Design Lab is promoting and developing research on service design and the way this discipline can support an exploratory, co-creative and empowering approach to address broad issues of societal concern. Key themes of interest are digital social innovation, co-creation, open data, smart cities, service design for public sector, to name just a few.

Nicola Morelli

Nicola Morelli

Nicola Morelli is Professor at Aalborg University in Denmark. He has previously worked at RMIT University, in Australia and at Politecnico di Milano, where he also completed his PhD in Industrial Design. He funded the master in Service Systems Design at Aalborg University, Copenhagen and is now working on several EU research projects on service design, with a special focus on public services and social innovation. He has also published articles and books on service design methodologies, social innovation and sustainability, strategic design.

Luca Simeone

Luca is Associate Professor at Aalborg University in Denmark and his core focus is on how design and arts can support personal, organizational and community resilience, innovation, transition thinking, long-term strategic orientation and positive and impactful change. He has carried out research, teaching and consulting activities at various universities (Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Polytechnic University of Milan, Malmö University and University of the Arts London), (co)authoring and (co)editing some 70+ publications, including the recent book “Strategic Thinking, Design and the Theory of Change: A Framework for Designing Impactful and Transformational Social Interventions” (Edward Elgar, 2023).

Justyna Starostka

Justyna Starostka

Justyna is a postdoc researcher in the Service Design Lab at Aalborg University in Copenhagen. Her research is mainly focused on design thinking and service design with a special interest in collaborative approach to innovation and organizational change. She has a background in marketing and PhD in design management. Justyna combines her academic career with being a visual artist, finding creative ways to mix two disciplines.

Rike Neuhoff

Rike Neuhoff

Rike is a service designer and Ph.D. student at Aalborg University in Denmark. She holds an MSc in Service Systems Design and a bachelor’s degree in communication design. Her doctoral research is focused on how the integration of design, futures thinking, and strategic thinking can support the creation of post-oppositional, relational, and plurality-embracing visions for urban futures. Rike teaches service design and futures thinking and has worked on design (research) projects in Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands and Germany.
